rain_container.jpg (18910 bytes)Since rain chains were originally developed to guide the flow of rain water into japanese water basins I thought it would be nice to show a traditional copper rain gutter set-up. The picture on the left is outside a shop in Japan. The copper rain chain leads into a natural granite basin and the chain is weighted inside the basin to keep the chain from swaying in heavy winds.

japanese tea gardenStone basins have had a time honored place in both japanese gardens and tea gardens for centuries. There are many styles and shapes of carved granite water basins. Granite basins make a wonderful accent for rain chains and also provide a beautiful ornament in the garden. The lotus basin shown on the left goes beautifully with the "tulip" style copper rain chain. This basin is available from http://www.japanesegifts.com
