Long ago, rain chains were created as a decorative rain gutter to guide rainwater into large basins. Rain water was collected and valued for running water was not available in homes or businesses. Fresh water was usually carried daily from a well or stream in buckets for everyday tasks such as washing clothes, dishes and cooking. Japanese rain chains provided the perfect solution to funnel and collect the fresh rain water.

However, what makes the rain chain very unique is that the water is actually seen instead of contained. The beautifully handcrafted copper rain chain itself is an architectural accent.

The rain gently glides through and around the chain providing a fountain like effect and the sound of the flowing water captures and entertains the senses. Today, handcrafted copper Japanese rain chains are found on homes, temples and businesses throughout Japan.
